Image In Seconds does not open or convert DWG or DXF files, because they are CAD drawings and not images. Our sister tool CADdillo at caddillo.com opens them free in your browser and converts a DWG to PDF, DXF, PNG or SVG without AutoCAD.
CADdillo is a free DWG/DXF converter and AI-assisted 2D CAD editor that runs in the browser. It converts a DWG to PDF, DXF, PNG or SVG without AutoCAD. Image In Seconds cannot open these files.
DWG is the native drawing format of AutoCAD. It stores geometry, layers, blocks, dimensions and text as editable objects, not pixels, in a proprietary binary layout that has changed with many AutoCAD releases. DXF is the text-based exchange format Autodesk published so other programs could read drawings; it carries much the same content in a form that is easier for software to parse.
Both are CAD formats. A picture converter works with pixels or with simple vector artwork, and cannot interpret layers, line weights, model and paper space, or the hundreds of drawing entities a CAD file uses. That is why this site, which converts images, PDF, EPS and AI files, deliberately stops short of DWG and DXF rather than producing a wrong-looking result.
| Extensions | .dwg, .dxf |
|---|---|
| Type | CAD drawing (vector geometry with layers and blocks) |
| Converted by Image In Seconds? | No. Use caddillo.com |
| Opens at | CADdillo (https://caddillo.com), free, in the browser |
| Can become an image via | A PDF or PNG export from CADdillo or from the CAD program that made it |
Use CADdillo at https://caddillo.com. It is built by the same team as Image In Seconds, runs in the browser, and needs no AutoCAD licence. Per its own site it converts a DWG to PDF, DXF, PNG or SVG, opens DXF directly, and includes a 2D drafting editor if you need to change something before sending the drawing back.
If someone only needs to look at the drawing, ask the sender to export a PDF from their CAD program. A PDF plot can be turned into JPG or PNG on this site: drop it on the PDF to JPG or PDF to PNG page.
The short version: pictures here, drawings at CADdillo.
| You have | Use | Why |
|---|---|---|
| DWG or DXF drawing | CADdillo (caddillo.com) | It understands CAD layers, blocks and line weights |
| PDF plot of a drawing | Image In Seconds | Turns each page into JPG, PNG or WebP at 72, 150 or 300 DPI |
| EPS, AI, SVG artwork | Image In Seconds | Vector artwork converts to PDF, SVG and images here |
| Photos (HEIC, JPG, PNG, WebP) | Image In Seconds | Resize and convert in your browser |
The tool recognises it as a CAD drawing and shows a message pointing to caddillo.com instead of a generic error. Nothing is converted and nothing is uploaded.
Not on Image In Seconds. It does not open or convert CAD drawings. Use CADdillo at https://caddillo.com, a free DWG/DXF converter and AI-assisted 2D CAD editor that runs in the browser and exports PDF, DXF, PNG or SVG.
Open it in CADdillo at caddillo.com. It runs in your browser, so there is nothing to install and no AutoCAD licence is needed.
CADdillo opens DXF files natively in the browser, with pan, zoom and layer inspection. Image In Seconds cannot open DXF.
Export a PDF or PNG from CADdillo (or from your CAD program). If you want JPG or WebP, drop the exported PDF into Image In Seconds and choose the format and DPI.
No. DWG is a CAD drawing format that stores editable geometry, layers and blocks. It has to be plotted or exported to PDF or PNG before it becomes an image.
Because CAD is a different job from image conversion. A DWG needs a CAD engine that understands drawing entities, units and paper space, and that is what CADdillo is for.
Yes. Both are made by Quantum Armadillo, LLC. CADdillo is the tool we recommend for CAD drawings.
